Climate Change Solutions

Here we look at; Why I Help Climate Change; Voting With Our Money; and, The Roadmap with 40+ Climate Change Solutions. This is part of our series on helping climate change by Growing, Eating, and Living in a Way That Could Be Sustained Forever.

Welcome to the final part of our mini series on climate change.

In this mini series, we’re covering everything from what is climate change, the causes, the effects, and how you can help to stop climate change.

If you already know that it’s important to do something about climate change, here are the things that you can do:

  1. Check out #VoteWithOurMoney with 6 Steps to Help Stop Climate Change
  2. Try the Sustainability Roadmap with 40+ Solutions to Climate Change
  3. Use the Company Directory to Help You Grow, Eat, and Live Sustainably

If you want some more facts before making any decisions, let’s get into the details:

Here’s what we’ve covered so far;

For the final part of the mini series, I thought I’d give a summary of the two ways that we’re hoping to inspire others by making it easy to help climate change and, importantly, improve our health and happiness.

Before I get into that, I thought I’d say why I’m doing this, why I feel it’s important to help climate change.

Why I Help Climate Change

You probably arrived here from a search, social media, or some other website (or maybe you subscribe to my newsletter or podcast) so it’s likely you haven’t read the page About James Walters and How I Help Climate Change.

I keep giving ideas to help climate change but you’re probably wondering who I am and why I’m doing this.

Well, here’s my “Why”:

  • I’d always been interested in self-sufficiency
  • I’d had a go at growing my own food, homebrewing
  • But work had always consumed my time
  • During lockdown, I had more time at home so I took on an allotment
  • I started a Biodynamic gardening course
  • I’d never heard of Biodynamics before
  • I expected just a ‘normal’ course on growing food
  • What I actually got was how to grow your own + how to connect with nature
  • I realised how utterly disconnected I’d become from the world around me
  • How the food and drink that we buy is changed for the benefit of profit, convenience, shelf life. Not for the benefit of our health.
  • During the course, Kiss The Ground was mentioned
  • I watched the documentary on Netflix and WOW!
  • I realised how critical it is that we do something to reverse climate change
  • I thought about my 7 year old son
  • I felt that I’ve been part of destroying our beautiful planet and his future
  • The documentary was also a HUGE moment of inspiration
  • We can reverse climate change by changing the way we farm and buy food
  • I discovered a new world under our feet with billions of microorganisms in every teaspoon of healthy soil…
  • I learnt that regularly ploughing destroys topsoil, because it destroys this amazing thing called mycorrhizal fungi that actually works with bacteria and plants to store carbon and build soil as well as produce nutritious food
  • I learnt that if the whole world switched to regenerative agriculture, we could draw down the carbon that we need to remove from the atmosphere in 5 years!
  • MIND BLOWN!!!
  • I felt that I’d learnt this secret information and I had to do something with it
  • After a lot of research and thinking, i decided to use my sales and marketing skills
  • After 6 months of planning, I quit my job
  • And got to work building a website to inspire others to help climate change

Right then, that’s my story, let’s get into the two main ways that I’m hoping to inspire and help others.

Climate Change Solutions by Voting With Our Money

I came up with the campaign #VoteWithOurMoney to show that we all have the power to help climate change at the same time as improving our lives.

We don’t need to wait for governments. We can’t trust all businesses to ‘do-the-right-thing’. Just because something is available to buy, it doesn’t mean we should buy it. Many ‘modern’ food and drink has been significantly changed—with synthetic ingredients and flavour enhancers and sugar and salt and additives and preservatives—to increase profits and shelf life, but at the cost of our health and happiness.

Vote With Our Money is 6 quick climate change solutions that are the start of the journey to live in a way that improves our lives and the lives of future generations.

Here’s a summary of the climate change solutions you’ll find on the #VoteWithOurMoney page of this website:

  1. Instead of using Google, search with Ecosia (quick and free)
  2. Instead of ‘any’ products, switch to products that are good for us
  3. Instead of ‘any’ gas and electric, switch to renewable and green energy
  4. Instead of banks that finance climate chaos, switch to an ethical bank
  5. Instead of pensions that fund climate change, switch to an ethical fund
  6. Get involved with #VoteWithOurMoney and spread the word

We Have the Power to Solve Climate Change

The next goal in the climate crisis is to halve global emissions by 2030. For those of us that can afford to change the way we live, halving our emissions is completely within our control.

By changing how we live and where we keep and spend our money, we can be the heroes of our own story by helping to stop climate change.

The UN Climate Change Conference Glasgow is happening in November 2021. This, I feel, is the most important event in the history of humanity. We need government support to help us insulate our homes, transition from gas boilers to heat pumps, and switch from diesel and petrol cars to electric vehicles, however, there are many things that we can change ourselves, without waiting for government support. By changing the way we live and how we spend our money, we can encourage or force businesses and governments to change too.

That’s it for this mini series on climate change.

I hope it’s been a helpful introduction to climate change, the causes, the effects, and the ideas and solutions to help stop climate change.

Whilst that’s the end of this mini series, I’ll keep publishing lots of new content on the Nafford Junction website, podcast, and social media to give you ideas of how to help climate change by inspiring regeneration to give back more than we take and sustainability for the benefit of people, planet, and future generations.
